Joomla hosting, a simple review

PDF Print E-mail

I often get asked about hosting and who I use and how to pick a good host and I´ve often thought about running reviews of Joomla hosting providers, but I don´t, simply because it would cost too much money to do.

So, this page, is just here to tell you about what I´ve gone through in the last six years of Mambo and Joomla.

Like most people I started off with a shared server and I picked Bluehost. To this day I still have my Bluehost account as I can´t fault what I´ve had from them and they´ve always responded quickly to my support tickets. I feel leaving would be wrong, so I keep it and use it on an ad-hoc basis, mostly taking advantage of the storage space.

After Bluehost, I used someone else that didn´t last very long so they´re not getting a mention, although they are considered a very good Joomla host, I just found them a little too restrictive.

Moving on to today and I´m on my own dedicated server but this is managed for me by 5quid Host. I didn´t just jump ini on this, I started with a reseller account with them before moving up to a VPS and only recently did I make the move to a dedicated server. There has not been one day I´ve regretted the move and I can not recommend them enough.

However, the most important thing to consider when picking a host, is how you feel about everything. You´ve got to be happy with what you are paying, the services you get and most importantly you´ve got to feel confident that your data is secure and that you trust whoever it is you are using.

With that in mind and because I personally have only had three hosts (that specialise in Joomla), I´m going to list other hosting providers that I´ve had dealings with or come highly recommended, by people I trust, which I suppose is the next best thing.

Recommended Hosting Providers: Shared Servers

Recommended Hosting Providers: VPS Servers

Recommended Hosting Providers: Dedicated Servers

A sort of disclaimer: These are people I have used and should not in anyway mean that other hosting providers are not up to scratch or not worth considering. It´s simply that I´ve used these companies and I´m happy. I´ve also used several that I´m not happy with, so you won´t see those listed, which is sort of the point of this post.

I am thinking about making a bigger list of Joomla hosting providers, but for now, based on what you actually need, you won´t go far wrong with 5quid Host for anything, for a smaller site, you´ve got Siteground, Bluehost, Hostgator and for a VPS ServInt come very highly recommended. For dedicated, it really does depend on if you need it managed or not, but an alternative to the companies I´ve listed above is Platinum Server Management, who for $29 a month will manage the server for you, so maybe something else to consider.
