Open Source content management system finalists announced

Following six weeks and almost 12,000 nominations, Packt Publishing is pleased to announce the five Content Management Systems that have made it through to the final of the 2006 Open Source CMS Award.

With a total of 74 different open source Content Management Systems being nominated, the competition was high. The top ten were separated by very few nominations and the eventual result brought together an interesting mix of established projects and some newer names:

> Drupal
> e107
> Joomla!
> Plone
> Xoops

These five will now go through to a final voting stage that begins on September 12 and runs through till November 7.

The final will be voted for by an independent panel of judges comprising of three industry experts and made up of representatives from The Open Source Collective, MySQL and the Eclipse Foundation, the judges will be looking at usability.

Visitors to Packt’s website www.PacktPub.com will also be playing a key role in deciding the eventual winner of the Award.

From September 12, voting will commence on the site, with visitors invited to submit their choice for the best Open Source Content Management System.
